About me.

Abbey Cowling

I am a Speech and Language Therapist and owner of Dartmoor Speech and Language Therapy.

I am certified with The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy (RCSLT), The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and The Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).

I am originally from Australia, where I began my career as a Speech and Language Therapist. For more than a decade I have worked between hospitals and the community. I now work independently alongside my NHS role in the beautiful South West.

My clinical interest areas include:

  • Early language development

  • Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties), 0-18 years

  • Infant feeding (bottle feeding, breast feeding, and weaning onto solids)

  • Behavioural and sensory based feeding aversions

  • Autism Spectrum Condition, and social communication difficulties

I aim to develop evidence based functional communication skills, and to create relaxed, safe, positive mealtimes for babies, children, young people, and the wider family.

We provide services in a range of settings, including at home. The aim is for speech and language therapy to be fun. There are many benefits of having these appointments in your own home, which is a familiar and natural environment for both communication and mealtime support. We’ll aim to use things you already own.

Appointments are available Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturdays around Plymouth, Dartmoor, North Cornwall, and The South Hams including PL1-PL9 and PL21.

If you are outside of this area but would still like to work together, this may be possible with a travel supplement or via telehealth so please get in touch.
